Syd died of a malignant tumour on his kidney, & secondary bone cancer!
Syd was one of 6 children, 2 boys of who died at a very young age, & 3 Sisters, the late Eileen, & still living Iris & Joan! His late parents were Steve & Violet Smallcombe!
Syd was born 12th July 1923 in one of Tyler Steet Huts at Wincobank in the middle of a storm, & was therefore nicknamed stormy! He met his lovely wife to be" Evelyn" in an air -aid shelter in the middle of an air raid
in the early 1940s, after his marriage to Evelyn they went on to have 5 children Carole, Christine, Stephen, Diane & Mark! During his younger life Syd served in the British Army! As the years went on he became a long distant lorry driver, he at that time was also a semi professional singer, & spent many years singing on the club curcuit! Many years later he purchased a black hackney taxi cab, & was still doin a bit if driving & working the taxi radio well into his seventies! His passion for singing was a great influence on all us children & our Mum because we all love music & singing, unfortunately none of us followed in his footsteps! When we were all together we would have some lovely singsongs, & Syd always gave us a spot at family partys He was a true gentleman, with a heart big enough to fill a bucket! Wherever he went he filled the room with the warmth & love that he showered everyone with! He died with great dignity, after suffering so much pain, thats why we could never wish him back to suffer again!
My Darling Dad, it's been 10 long years since we as a family enjoyed Christmas together. You loved a party with Mum & us (all your children) Your sneaky tot's of Whiskey & you loved your chocolate Brazil nuts. We would sing & play charades. Oh how we loved those times. The last time we were all together as a family was not such a happy occasion, it was our final goodbyes to you dear Dad. Love you, miss you ((((hugs)))) X

Hello Dad, yes you know why i'm writing this to you, don't you? Your beloved Sister Joan has joined you earlier today. I can visualise you with your strong arms round her & the bear hugs you will be giving her. You can join Auntie Eileen & your Mum & Dad & all family & friends up there & sing altogether in your eternal home. & you & Auntie Joan probs are having a crafty fag hahaha. God bless you all xxx
Dear Dad, i just wanted to let you know your lovely Sister Joan is gravely ill in Hospital, & will be soon joining you in the eternal home & heavenly garden. I know you will be there at those pearly gates to meet her, with your arms open wide, along with your other Sister Eileen & your Mum & Dad xxx
My Grandad
My great Grandad Syd was loving & jolly, he was caring to his Wife, Daughters & Sons & all their families. I used to love going to see him, as i do my Great Nan Smallcombe. Grandad was always busy, either in the gardon, he had a hobby of painting & drawing. He loved being with his family. One of his great passions was singing & it was a pleasure to hear him at family parties.This is a paragraph of love, for my very special Grandpa. Lots of love from Dane xxx

If i could write a story, it would be the greatest ever told. Of a kind & loving Father, who had a heart of gold. I could write a million pages, but still be unable to say, just how much i miss him, every single day! xxx
Hiya Dad, well on Tuesday 11th May 7 years ago we burried your ashes in your final resting place! It's so long ago yet it seems like yesterday! We all miss you so much, especially Mum! I know you're looking down on us all right now, & helping us all through our difficult times! Love you forever Dad xxx
Awaiting were the Angels, that took you by the hand, & guided you to your place of rest, in the beautiful Promised land. Love & miss you more each day Dad xxx

I can't believe it's 6 years today that we laid you to rest, it only seems like yesterday we bade you farewell for the last time. You are never far from my mind Dad, & will be in my heart forever.
